PHOENIXVILLE - Senior Night for the Phoenixville football team turned into a full-scale success Monday night at Washington Field.

The 11 Phantom seniors, most of whom see action on both sides of the ball, were honored with their parents in ceremonies prior to the game against the Indians. From there, Phoenixville jumped to a 17-0 lead against the Tribe to start the second quarter, saw the Indians trim their deficit to 17-14 by halftime, and then the Phantoms exploded with 33 unanswered second-half points to register a much-needed 50-14 Pioneer Athletic Conference victory.

It marked the third straight victory for the Phantoms (5-2, 7-2 overall) while the Indians fell to 3-4 (4-5 overall). Phoenixville produced at least 50 points for the second time this season.

"It is a good group of seniors," said Phoenixville coach Bill Furlong. "They have all been part of this for the last three years. I am really happy for them."

Phoenixville outgained Upper Perkiomen in total yardage, 233-131, including 206-45 in rushing yardage. The Phantoms recovered two fumbles, and Anthony Nattle had a 23-yard interception return for a touchdown on the first play of the second period to give the hosts a 17-0 cushion. Freshman John McInally opened the scoring with a 26-yard field goal at the 7:41 mark of the first stanza.

Phantom seniors Jordan Thomas and Will Sinnott each scored two touchdowns. Thomas scored on a 42-yard run in the first quarter to five Phoenixville its 10-0 lead at the end of the first period. Thomas also had a 31-yard punt return for a score on the first play of the fourth quarter.

Sinnott raced 46 yards for a TD with 6:42 left in the fourth quarter to stretch the lead to 43-14 after his 42-yard punt return for a TD made it 30-14 at the 1:54 mark of the third quarter.

Senior quarterback Mark Ferko had a 5-yard scoring run and senior two-way tackle Andrew Carr plowed for a 3-yard TD with 9:02 left in the third period to give the Phantoms a 23-14 lead.

Thomas rushed for 84 yards on seven carries and Nattle totaled 68 yards on 13 attempts. Sinnott added 49 yards on just three plays from scrimmage. Thomas also had a fumble recovery from his safety position on defense.

"Our special teams (punt returns did it)," Furlong said. "Both are such good kids, Sinnott and Jordan (Thomas). We blocked and the walls were there. We were firing on all cylinders."

Upper Perkiomen senior quarterback Justin Kresge scored on a 1-yard run and completed a 9-yard scoring toss to senior split end Justin Horning. Kresge completed 9 of 16 passes for 86 yards. Horning had seven receptions for 86 yards, including an outstanding leaping catch for the touchdown in the left corner of the end zone.

The Indians cut the Phoenixville lead to 17-14 on Horning's TD with 13 seconds left in the first half. The connection capped a 10-play, 86-yard drive by the Tribe.
